Balby B Dominate To Secure Victory In

Both Leagues and reach Trevose Finals

29th November 2017

Retford Golf Club

Balby A managed to come in with a disappointing team score of 234 gross and 228 nett which managed to scrape them a third place on the day which meant they just managed to make it to the finals. It was good scoring conditions with the course being shortened but this didn’t really show in the overall scores from the day. This reflected with the scores from the A team on the day. Charlie Daughtrey (Rotherham GC -1) shot his worst score of the year posting an 80 which was poor on the day for him. Jack Wilson was another who also struggled on the day by getting off to a slow start after being +5 thru 2 holes and finishing with a score of 80 which meant the team had to rely on the final .2 players to post a good score. The best score by the Balby A team was Owen Musgrave (Forest Pines G.C 2) who shot 74 after struggling to begin with after being +4 thru 5 holes. The Final player in the A team was George Mason (Wath G.C 3) who struggled off the tee which meant he could only post a score of 81 which was very uncharacteristic by his usual standards. This meant that the A team finished 3rd gross on the day and managed to finish 2nd in the gross league and qualify for the finals at Trevose.

The Balby B team managed to clinch the top position in both gross and nett league after all 5 rounds which secured them a place at the finals. The teams lead player was Jedd Pressley, left (Worksop G.C 8) who managed to post a score of 70 which was the best score on the day and shows his practice is really being taken onto the course. The second player for the team was Lewis Eccles (Dewsbury & district G.C 4) who came in with a score of 72 which was great considering he was +4 through 9 holes. Balby B’s third player of the day was Liam Bennett (Retford G.C 5) Who battled out a score of 77 after having to shoot -2 for the final 10 holes to accomplish this. The final player who’s score didn’t count on the day was Oliver Sullivan (Phoenix G.C 5) who shot a score of 81 which wasn’t ideal with him having a chance to finish inside the top 3 in the overall OOM (order of merit). He will be hoping that the manager can see this score as being a bad day and I’m sure he will work hard to get his game back to where it should be over the winter break.

The Balby B team score of 219 gross and 202 net means they came 1st gross and 1st nett on the day. This means they have clinched the gross league but have also been crowned champions in the nett after winning all 5 of the events that have been played in nett. Hopefully the team can take the positive result into practice over the winter get everyone ready to compete in the ICT league when we return.

The next event is on Wednesday 7th February at Fleetwood where we will be expecting an improvement of the previous performance in the ICT league and around Fleetwood.
