Academy of Sport

20th January 2017

MATCH REPORT: Wednesday saw Balby Academy of Sport travel to college football heavyweights Monkeseaton in the last 16 of the National Schools Elite cup. The game kicked off and the nervous energy of the game spoiled the first 10 minutes but once both teams had settled down it was a fantastic game. Balby drew first blood opening the scoring through Charlie Baird with a low right footed strike into the bottom corner.

HT 0-1

The second half started and Monkeseaton came out flying creating chances and causing the Balby boys problems. On the 55th minute Monkeseaton where awarded a penalty which was converted from the front man 1-1. The Balby boys hit back instantly through Joshua Yeoman with a great free kick from Kenneth Sweeney curling the ball onto the head of Balby forward who slammed home 1-2.

It was backs against the wall stuff for the rest of the game for Balby who dug in and worked hard to keep the lead. 5 minutes from the end Balby hearts where broken when Monkeseaton’s main man hit home a 25-yard wonder strike into the top corner.

FT 2-2

Extra time started and ended in the same fashion with Monkeseaton dominating throughout scoring two late goals ending Balbys hopes of winning the National Cup.

I would just like to say how immensely proud I am of the boy’s efforts in reaching the last 16 of a National Tournament and I’m sure we will be prepared and ready to go again next year.

FINAL SCORE: 4-2

NEXT FIXTURE:  Bishop Burton Wednesday 25th
