12th January 2017
On Wednesday 11th January, the women’s football academy restarted their competitive fixture schedule for 2017. And, the season started off with an important game vs. Durham Sixth Form in a double header for the English Schools Cup Quarter Finals and English Colleges Cup. The girls rose to the occasion straight from the start and Lauren Breen scored in the first minute of the game to capitalise on a goalkeeping error. And in quick succession, Lauren Breen scored again to take Balby into a 2nil lead. Durham grew into the game as the game progressed and managed to grab a goal back just before half time.
Balby Carr knew that they needed a lifted performance in the second half despite losing two players to first half injuries. And they did that when Lauren Breen completed her hatrick so that Balby could regain their 2 goal cushion. Balby then lost a third player to an injury and Durham started to mount on the pressure. This led to us conceding 4 goals and Durham progressed to the next round of the competition winning 5-3.
A special mention has to go to Chloe Dean and Phoebe Sneddon who were relentless at the back and very good when they were in possession of the ball.
FINAL SCORE: Balby Carr Community Academy 3 – 5 Durham Sixth Form Centre
GOAL SCORER(S): Lauren Breen x3
NEXT FIXTURE: Away vs. Middlesbrough in the ECFA Cup
